Why does my engine “Pop” or “backfire”?

< Back

This is often the result of an engine pumping too much fuel through the chamber, any unburnt fuel is pushed out with the exhaust stroke and the hot exhaust can instigate a small after ignition of the fuel.

An afterfire occurs after the engine has been shut off.  Backfire and afterfire through the carburettor will not harm the engine at all!

These issues would likely resolve themselves as the engine settles down and beds in.
